Mike Grieco is one of the Founding Partners of Stinar Gould Grieco & Hensley (SGGH) and co-manages the firm’s Trial Litigation and Personal Injury practice groups, overseeing catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases arising out of transportation crashes, birth injury, sexual abuse and assaults, medical malpractice, workplace injury, nursing home neglect, product liability and aviation crashes. Mike specializes in handling complex litigation from the moment a client contacts the firm all the way up through trial or settlement.
Mike was honored with the F. Scott Baldwin Award by the American Association for Justice (AAJ), which is presented each year to the most outstanding young trial lawyer in the Country. Prior to founding SGGH with his partners, Mike practiced at one of the largest personal injury law firms in Illinois representing injured individuals. He was promoted to Partner within his first five years practicing law.
In the courtroom, Mike has helped obtain the following jury verdicts, some of which are record-breaking. These verdicts include:
- $40 million in a medical malpractice case;
- $28.7 million in a medical malpractice wrongful death case;
- $9.05 million in a traumatic brain injury case against Commonwealth Edison;
- $1.33 million in a motor vehicle collision case;
- $1.30 million in a dental malpractice case;
Outside of the courtroom, Mike’s work has helped secure multiple medical malpractice settlements in the amounts of $12.35 million, $8 million, $6.9 million, $4.25 million, and $2.875 million.
Mike played a critical role in obtaining a $50 million settlement, where Mike took over 40 depositions in the case and worked with and presented experts across the country. Additionally, Mike has secured millions of dollars in cases for his clients, including a premises liability case for $3.3 million, a product liability case for $2.675 million, a nursing home wrongful death case for $1.2 million and motor vehicle collision cases for $750,000 and $725,000.
Mike is currently litigating cases on behalf of 19 Plaintiffs who have been diagnosed with cancer or other illnesses from toxic chemicals that were dumped into the groundwater by two companies in Union, Illinois. Mike has appeared in the media to discuss the case. He also helped prosecute several cases against Boeing for the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 airplane crash. He is currently litigating a helicopter crash case against the helicopter’s maintenance company in Kansas.
Mike is an active member of various professional organizations and holds leadership roles with the American Association for Justice (AAJ). Mike was elected to the Board of Governors and is on the executive committee for the Professional Negligence section. He has also been elected to the executive board of the Justinian Society of Lawyers. He is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyer Association (ITLA) and Illinois State Bar Association. He also recently served in two leadership roles for the Chicago Bar Association: On the Judicial Evaluation Committee and as Co-Chair of the Young Lawyers Division Tort Litigation Committee. Mike is regularly asked to speak at conferences around the country by ITLA and AAJ.
He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, walked on the football team as a kicker, and earned a varsity letter during his senior year. Mike earned his Juris Doctor from the Loyola University School of Law.
